Tips and tricks for fasteners

Here are some indications with our proposed solutions:

Blind rivets

Reason: Drill hole too large

Rivet „pulls through" because the head of the mandrel pulls itself into the sleeve. The rivet works on bearing stress.

Solution: At least on the closing head´s side the hole must be drilled precisely.

Reason: Grip range too small

If the specified grip range is underrun, the mandrel emerges from the sleeve because the rivet always breaks at the predetermined breaking point.

Solution: Check the grip range, if necessary, choose correct article.

Ursache: Nose piece too big

Because of the big nose piece drill hole the sleeve material is being pulled into the mouth piece. This often happens with sealed blind rivets, as the diameter of the mandrels is smaller compared to the standard rivet.

Solution: Assemble the correct nose piece

Reason: Clamping area too small

Solution: Check the component and use a rivet with different diameter if necessary.

Reason: Clamping area too large.
Not enough rivet material available.

Solution: Check if components are correctly placed on top of each other. If necessary use different dimension.

Reason: Drill hole too big

Solution: Check and drill a new hole if necessary.

Reason: Drill hole too big

Solution: Check if components are correctly placed on top of each other. If necessary use different dimension.

Blind rivet nuts

Reason: Stroke too high

Solution: Reduce stroke on the tool or the pliers.

Reason: Insufficient stroke

Solution: Blind rivet nut does not form adequate upset ridge: increase the stroke on the tool or pliers.
Caution! Use a stroke less than specified when re-setting the blind rivet nut.
